Skates is a coming of age drama set against the backdrop of a bleak suburban town on New Year’s Eve 1979. It follows a boy working at a roller skating rink who forms a heartwarming bond with a girl skating there that night. Strangers in a unique circumstance, the film is ultimately about the feeling of loneliness and isolation amidst a world of chaos and confusion as the two share the last night of the year together.
